With regret, we announce the passing of Gordon Rawlings

Amy Kemmett25 Sep 2024 - 07:00

God Bless His Soul

Gordon Rawlings has passed away aged 94, remembered by many club members as a great tourist, his son, Paul, has shared this memory.

This clipping was in the Paris-Normandie edition of Le Figaro on the 29th October 1979 and was taken from the first tour dad went on with me and the club to Pont Audemer in Northern Brittany. This was the Old C's side that had won the under 15s county cup in April of that year. Doug Perks was the coach and led the tour. If you are wondering about the headline, Gloucester... Sur Risle. Pont Audemer is on the River Risle and we did win 76 to 0. The presentation of the loaf of bread was a bit of a mystery to us at the time and somehow Dad ended up with it and in the paper. As I think I said in my earlier note, dad subsequently went on a number of tours with the club and was a member of Old C's for a number of years in the 80s and I think 90s.

The Funeral will be at St Catherine's Church, London Road at 12:30 on October 9th and his wife Brenda, son Paul, daughter Jane and their families would be very pleased to see any friends of dad at the service.

God Bless His Soul
