Mike 'Pump' Wildy passed away on Thursday 10th October at the age of 44 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He returned to the UK from Cyprus, which he called home with his wife Rachel and dogs for the last couple of years, to undergo treatment full of hope. However unfortunately the treatment was unsuccessful and he sadly had to prepare for the worst.
According to the stats Pump played for Old Cryptians 72 times, 66 of those appearances for the first XV. (Although a previous club captain at the time has admitted losing the stats book for a season so it may have been more!). He was proud to have played in the team that won the junior combination cup final at Kingsholm in 2014. His time at Old Cryptians was sometimes plagued with injuries, and an operation in 2015 on a shoulder injury pretty much called an end to his time as a player.
He was a mountain of a man with a soft heart, always happy to help others. A formidable prop who relished a scrum, and had a fair few scrum penalty trys under his belt.
Before coming to the club Pump had experience playing rugby elsewhere at a higher level, but at Old Cryptians he found a club he could call home and team mates he would end up calling friends.
From rugby tours (with some questionable outfits), nights at the club, festival weekends, stag-do's and watching Gloucester games at Kingsholm Pump enjoyed spending time with his team mates and friends, always with a beer in his hand and a mate on his shoulder.
He will be missed by a lot of people, and will leave a big prop sized hole in our hearts.
God bless his soul.
